The Lighthouse (Montauk Point, New York)
The lighthouse stands guard for ships passing easternmost Long Island either into the Long Island Sound or into the Atlantic Ocean. From the lighthouse one can look out over the open Atlantic, as its waves crash upon the windswept shore. Far across the Atlantic beyond the power of the human eye, but well within the grasp of the human imagination is the rich tradition of London and the unforgettable romance of Paris. As day's last light fades to the soft hue of gathering evening, this is as good a time as any to dream of the lands across the vast expanse of water that stands in front of the lighthouse. |
